Description
This support package is meant to facilitate MSc students in fusion who want to go abroad for an internship, thereby stimulating quality of education through exchanges. The internship can take place at a fusion research centre or university involved in fusion research. This place is not limited to Europe. Students registered at universities that are a FuseNet member and/or are doing their internship at hosts that are a FuseNet member, and their home university is located in one of the EUROfusion member states can apply for financial support for their internship here.
The financial support consists of a fixed amount of travel support (depending on the travel distance) and accommodation/living support (depending on the internship duration). The application has to be submitted at least 2 weeks before and within 6 months of the start of the internship. Other sources of funding for the internship (scholarships or grants, compensation or salary from the host institute, funds from other EU support schemes, etc.) need to be specified. Funding can also be restricted in cases where funding has been received from FuseNet in the past (see the terms and conditions on the FuseNet webpage).
The application link and the terms & conditions can be found in the FuseNet webpage:

Conditions
Typed facts extracted from the source documents by Scindu's grant-data review. Each value keeps its own conditions. Unknown means unstated, not zero or unlimited.
- Applicant restriction
- Eligible applicants are MSc students in fusion-relevant study programmes at a university in a EUROfusion member state, where either home university or host internship is a FuseNet member; students must be in the Master phase or graduated within six months, not employed by their university, undertake a fusion-relevant project at a fusion research centre/university in a different country from home university, for at least six weeks. For a graduated applicant, the completed Master must have been completed within a FuseNet member university; this is an additional graduate-specific institutional condition, alongside the home-university-or-host FuseNet membership requirement.
- Applicant restriction
- For graduate courses outside the Bachelor–Master structure, including the UK MPhys and Croatian integrated master, students are eligible beginning in the summer before their graduate year. The source example states that the Scottish MPhys takes five years and the English MPhys four years, and eligibility for both begins after the third year. This is a course-structure exception within the student-stage eligibility rule, not a general relaxation for other courses.
- Application restriction
- Application must be submitted at least two weeks before internship start and internship must start no later than six months after application. Decisions are communicated within two weeks after complete submission. Applications are first come, first served while budget remains; the official page currently says the 2026 budget is fully used and new applications are waitlisted. The initial claim requires the travel invoice and associated tickets plus confirmation of arrival/internship at the location; the initial payment includes travel and half of subsistence. The final claim follows completion and requires evidence including the host supervisor’s signed confirmation letter covering attendance dates. Claims and evidence are submitted through the designated FuseNet form within three months after internship end. Payment is only by bank transfer to a valid IBAN. A valid contact address for the Master student’s supervisor must be supplied, and the supervisor is informed of the application outcome. The student must acknowledge the EUROfusion consortium and FuseNet Association in publications resulting wholly or partly from the funded internship, particularly the thesis/report, and provide a photograph plus a short A5-size article summarizing the supported internship/visit for FuseNet website publication. Where eligibility is doubtful, FuseNet Executive Office consults its Academic Council in writing; the Council decision is final and binding and cannot be discussed or changed.
- Other condition
- The internship origin is normally the student’s home university; travel from another closer origin is accepted. Destination is the city/place of internship. The FuseNet Executive Office determines distance using the Erasmus+ distance calculator and may determine disputed distances without further appeal. This is a travel-distance determination and is separate from eligibility review: the Executive Office checks eligibility and, if requirements are doubtful, consults the Academic Council in writing; that Council decision is final and binding.
- Other condition
- No other EUROfusion direct/indirect funding or other Horizon Europe scheme may support the same internship. Applicants must disclose other external funding and host salary/compensation; earlier FuseNet award within 12 months generally excludes repeat support, subject to an exception that removes travel support and caps combined subsistence duration at six months.
- Other conditionSupported internship period and eligible funded time under Terms and Conditions 2026
- Periods of holiday between internship periods are excluded from funding. Except for holiday periods of up to 14 days, the internship should in principle be uninterrupted. If intermittent, the applicant must indicate this in advance and obtain prior written permission from the FuseNet Executive Office. These are timing/funding eligibility conditions, not an extension of the six-month supported period; the internship itself may last longer.
The source states a general uninterrupted-internship rule and an exception only for holiday gaps up to 14 days; intermittent schedule otherwise requires advance disclosure and prior written permission.
- Other condition
- Internship subsistence support is EUR 500/month up to EUR 3,000 for six months; it is prorated on a 30-day month for part-months. Other support caps subsistence such that total support does not exceed EUR 1,000/month. Career-wide FuseNet travel and subsistence support combined is capped at EUR 5,000. Subsistence has a separate hard component ceiling of EUR 3,000 per student per internship (six supported months). Independently, all FuseNet travel and subsistence support for that student across educational events and/or internships is capped at EUR 5,000 over the student’s study career.
- Other condition
- Travel support is a fixed unit cost determined by one-way distance from the student’s home university or accepted closer origin to internship location; actual cost does not determine the award. Any other public travel support makes this component void.
Amounts and costs
- Indicative budget
- €100,000
Topic budget as stated in the portal's budget table. Lump-sum and per-project limits are in the call conditions.
- Funding per beneficiary, maximumAll FuseNet travel and subsistence educational-event/internship support to one student over study career
- €5,000
Combined FuseNet travel and subsistence support for educational events and/or internships across the student’s study career. This cumulative cap is separate from the EUR 3,000 internship subsistence component cap and same-internship monthly support ceiling.
- Funding per beneficiary, maximumFuseNet internship subsistence support for one student
- €3,000
Cap on this internship subsistence component only; based on EUR 500/month and a maximum of six supported months. It is not the distinct EUR 5,000 career-wide combined travel/subsistence ceiling or the EUR 1,000/month same-internship combined-support limit.
- Funding per beneficiary, maximumMaximum combined level of all support obtained for the same student internship, including FuseNet support and other support sources.
- €1,000
FuseNet subsistence support is adjusted so total internship support does not exceed EUR 1,000 per month. This is a combined support ceiling, not a FuseNet subsistence rate, salary, or an additional grant amount.
- Call allocationExact SEDIA record for FuseNet Internship Support; API field `budget`
- €100,000
Provider record exposes budget=100000. Do not treat this as current remaining balance, a confirmed operator-wide allocation, or evidence that funds remain: current FuseNet page says 2026 budget fully used and new applicants waitlisted. Preserve this source-field amount with uncertainty.
